Men’s Work Attire: 5 Rookie Mistakes (and How to Fix Them)

Are you wearing your favorite neon green tie, with the monkey pattern to work tomorrow? Hopefully, you don’t even own a tie like this! However, these are things to think about before you start getting dressed for work each day. Dressing for work can get a bit nerve wrecking, but you don’t want to be the guy on the employee gossip committee’s worst-dressed list. Follow these five rookie mistakes you’re committing when it comes to your work attire and how to fix them!

Mistake #1: Not Dressing for Your Job Type

When you think of work attire, what usually comes to mind? Do you think of a suit and tie, with a button-up? This is where most men go wrong. There are many types of professions that allow different types of work attire. If you are working at a tech company, wearing an entire three-piece or two-piece suit is unnecessary. Most tech companies have a more relaxed work environment. Choose fitted jeans and a casual shirt instead of a suit.

If you’re working in a more corporate environment, wearing jeans is not appropriate (unless it’s a casual work day). So what can you do to dump that boring suit and tie you wear? Try skipping the tie and wearing suspenders instead!

Even on casual work days, don’t show up looking like you’re attending a baseball game!

Dress your casual pants with a sweater or blazer, to keep things easy-going, yet polished.
